PC won't turn on after changing cpu cooler (possible motherboard damage?) how do I troubleshoot?

I tried to replace my stock fx6300 cooler with a coolermaster hyper 212 evo (which was a pain in the ass in itself) and since then my pc won't turn on. I've tried reconnecting the on/off connector from the case on the mobo and tried reinstalling the stock cooler. I guess that more or less rules out the 212 being faulty and so I'm thinking that I may have damaged my motherboard during the un/in/reinstallation process... How would I go about testing it to find out? Or should I just bite the bullet and buy a new mobo, and OS? :/

Seems like you put too much pressure on the CPU. Remove the CPU and check for any bent pins on the mobo's CPU socket and physically examine the CPU as well. Any indication of physical damage would be enough to tell you if the Mobo or the CPU is damaged.

I dont think a faulty CPU cooler could damage the MOBO unless you did someting wrong.

Does anything happen when you push the power button?

Do you have a power button on the MOBO you can try, just to make sure the button is hooked up.

Did anything else happen to the PC before/after/during the switch?

Before you run out and buy a new MOBO I would do some further testing. Check the thermal paste and make sure its not messing with the CPU. Test your PSU (if you have another). Pull all ram except 1 stick.
