Hello friends, i bought a "broken motherboard" for a 5 bucks from a friend of my friend, he said that he didnt have the patience nor the steady hands to do it so i was like: cool free mobo. But he didnt say there were 2 broken pins and 1 with missing head. Here take a closer look:

Luckily enough i was just at the edge of power pins M17 and M18 (i think... i dont know what VSS and VCC mean but according to colors i hope its power), the 2 broken pins were for power but the one with the missing head "m16" is for "VAXG" (which i dont know what means either) according to this picture http://www.abload.de/img/pins_clark4mfk.png .
I think M16 MIGHT make contact with the CPU (i dont have one but planning to buy one) so is there ANY hope with this motherboard? note: its not the most high end board. In fact its the lowest end one but hey its almost "free" - ASUS P861-MX R2.0

I'll disagree and say it'll work. The package has lots of power and ground pins to spread the load: if you're missing a couple, it won't make much difference. As long as the damaged pins don't contact adjacent pins or pads, you should be able to live without them. I'd probably try to straighten the survivors, but if I had any concerns about damaging more I'd probably just remove the damaged pins altogether.

I say get the new CPU and try it. At worst, you're out the $5 and a little time; at best, it works.

But they are power pins, some say you can still run without some as long as its not data ones. Is it completely hopeless?

..and a damaged CPU, potentially. If you pursue this recommendation, understand the risks you are taking before you proceed. Just a word of warning.

I borrowed a cheap celleron g1610 from a friend to test it and it fired up. Sadly the M16 pin is for the integrated video so the first time i tried it didnt gave any image but whith a real graphics card its working okay (who uses integrated graphics anyway).
