Can a dead graphics card show up on device manager?

My HD7970 does show up on device manager if I have plugged monitor in the onboard video slot. If I try to plug in the graphics card it shows a black screen yet boots up fine.

If you are using your graphics card, the monitor should be linked to the graphics card and not the motherboard's graphics port.

yes it will show if you still have it plugged into the motherboard .. the board can read from the card and see that its there but the card wont be functioning properly so the pc cant project the image its supposed to .. if the card is dead then remove the card and dont just leave it lying there because a dead hardware can damage other parts
