Best reasonable one is probably the i7-4860HQ

Not exactly easy to assemble your own laptop, and you can end up spending more then you can buy one pre-assembled for.

If you want one that is at least somewhat customizable, look up the Clevo brand and its resellers.

I agree with Eximo. Trying to build a laptop isn't cost-efficient as buying one.

Not worth the extra money I would say. Even an older i7-4700MQ is plenty fast.

Even barebones laptop kits usually come with a processor and GPU installed. Usually pay a premium for individual parts.

GPUs are especially difficult since the minimum order is usually 1000, re-sellers buy them to make a profit, and cater to enthusiasts who are willing to pay. Used ones will almost always have been overclocked as well, and it can be risky buying them.

what is the point of this laptop? for gaming any one of the i7 quads sandy bridge or later is going to perform the same. if this is for highly threaded app work, good luck doing that with a laptop. responders above have already given the other facts about building your own laptop. otherwise just get the cheapest i7 quad that you can get that works with your build, you wont notice the difference gaming.

Sticking with Haswell gets you a lot more battery life, but yes, ivy and sandy bridge chips would be nearly as fast.

OK, lets get this straight. You have the ability to build a laptop but aren't even aware of the "best laptop processor evar"?
