A huge rain and wind storm hit my are around two weeks ago. Ever since then, my internet has been randomly dropping to a speed that is just unbearable and useless. It has been disconnecting me from many types of games, making my youtube really slow, and I can't watch a twitch stream. I have called them and they even doubled my speed to see if it helped. Well it did not and it keeps happening. Should I switch providers or get someone to come to my house? I do use a PCi Wireless Card, and it is working fine.

That would help narrow down the issue (wireless adapter or router). I suspect your wireless adapter. This could be purely coincidental with the rain issue.

BTW, does your client pick up multiple wirless networks where you live? If so, have you looked at what channel you have assigned for your wireless? You could also have some channel congestion going on. Likely not the main problem, but one that could contribute to your situation.
Call them chances are the drop to your house from the telephone poles may be waterlogged, which would cause this problem. In general ISP's are responsible for the drop to your house until it hits your own wiring, so if the fault is outside it is there expense to fix it.

This sounds more like a physical problem with the line coming to your home. I would suggest your ISP send a tech to your home to troubleshoot the issue.

If that fails to resolve the problem, you should consider other ISPs.

Good luck.

BTW, does this drop in service also occur when you are connected via ethernet (wired connection) to the router?

I have been wanting to try Ethernet. But my box has to be in the kitchen. For some reason that is the only phone jack that will work with the internet. And I don't have a very long ethernet cord.

So I moved my rig into the kitchen and played a few games and ran some tests. It seems to be working fine when wired up via ethernet. So this rounds it down to my card or the router. Should I just replace both? Or I could have a guy come out and make my phone jack work with the router.

Hello COLGeek. I have just found something out. So for the past two days, I have been playing battlefield 4 with my buds, since I am not working yet. I was home alone and I was getting beautiful speeds with a 60-75 ping in game. And when it got to around 5 o'clock my time, it acted up again. It is almost as if when someone comes back from a typical work day and interrupts my speed. My mother does come home at this time, but she only has a cell phone. So could it possibly be someone from around my neighborhood or something?

Cable modems share resources with other users on the same cable segment you use. That means when the kids come home from school and fire up their homework (games) they are clogging up the pipe, so to speak. Check the trend over a couple days. If verified contact your provider and complain. Good luck.
