Alright, a couple years ago, I bought a new water cooler (Antec Kuhler H2O 620) for my AMD fx-8350, which is running on an ASUS M5A97 motherboard. The water cooler itself works just fine, however, when I run a cpu-intensive application, the radiator fan speed doesn't budge. I know this cannot be right. I have tried a few things to fix this: Speed fan, ASUS AI Suite, change fan settings in the BIOS. None of these worked. I did, however, notice that the water cooler only has a three pin connector, whereas my mother board sockets (CPU fan and CPU opt) have four pins. Are some water coolers simply not compatible with certain motherboards? Or could it be something else?

I'm completely out of ideas to fix this, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Your pump is not PWM. The MB is sending 12v to the pump and then trying to adjust it's speed via PWM, but because your pump isn't PWM, this doesn't happen. I am not familiar with that specific board but typically, ASUS boards have a setting in the UEFI that you can select which tells the board you are using a 3 pin fan (or pump in this case) on the CPU_FAN header. It will then regulate the speed via voltage instead of PWM.
