Hello guys. My hard drive suddenly broke on me, so I decided to go for a new ssd and a new hard drive. But I do not know which one.

Looking for a reliable one with pretty good performance and can use SATA II for £60 or under.

Seen the samsung 840 evo but if any have better options ready to hear.

EDIT: MOBO P8H61-MX USB3.0
CASE: ZALMAN Z11 PLUS
PSU:: AX750

More about : ssd

The 840 EVO has problems and is supposed to be patched on the 15th. I'd wait before buying one of them to see how that goes. In lieu of that, the Intel 530's are very good. This would probably be your best bet on the cheap for getting both units.

Thanks for the reply. Reading up that p8h61-mx usb3.0 can have problems with SDD's is this true, and is it a big concern?

I wouldn't get an SSD from kingston, at the very least not there SSDNow series which they have been using significantly lower quality nand chips (around 1/5th the speed of the initial release IIRC) all without telling anyone. Anandtech has an article on it if you want to read more, not very good business practices imo.

As for suggestions I'd recommend the crucial MX100. I don't know how much it is there but over here its about 70 bucks (USD)

Thanks for the response. Is the Sandisk ultra II good? Because I can pick up one tomorrow. Also what about the Mobo problems is it a concern or is it very rare?

From reading anandtechs article on it it seems to be quite good, they gave it an anandtech recommended "award". It seems to trade blows with the MX100 and the samsung 840 evo. Also the endurance test faired nicely, the drive will easily outlive its usefulness.

You can read more here: http://www.anandtech.com/show/8520/sandisk-ultra-ii-240...

But unfortunately I have no personal experience with it.

Most likely go for the Sandisk. So no-one knows about the MOBO problem?

I've got 5 of the Kingston drives and have never had a single issue with any of them. However, I would normally recommend a higher tiered SSD however the OP clearly stated he had a very minimal budget to meet. I also would NOT recommend the Crucial MX100 as I've seen many people having issues coming out of sleep after installing those units and apparently no firmware revision is in sight to address the issue.

I suppose any piece of hardware you pick has at least some chance of conflicting with some other piece of hardware. And it's not advantageous to recommend hardware with serious known issues like the 840 EVO when we have no evidence to suggest that the forthcoming patch is going to correct the problem. As I said before, I'd wait to see if it resolves itself. Otherwise, that drive is a good choice if all works out.

I haven't heard of any motherboard problems with an ssd, but that doesn't mean there isn't one. I have googled it to see if I can find out more but I have come up empty.

I wasn't aware of the sleep issue, I wouldn't have recommended it if I had known. (or atleast told the potential buyer about it)

Also I wasn't recommending the 840 evo I was merely comparing performance. Yes I agree, if the OP can wait a week before purchasing then go for it.

(Fwiw I don't think I have ever been able to get windows sleep to work 100% of the time on any of my builds)

Well I searched and got one result, out of the web so a rare and most likely a isolated problem. Going for the Sandisk Ultra II because it is on par with the mx100 on lifespan and has way better write speed, and can get for £54.99.

Thanks guy's you have been a big help.
