Hey there!

I'm currently using a 2TB Hitachi HDD for my main desktop. I have a 256GB Samsung 840 EVO SSD that isn't currently being used, and I'd like to install it alongside the HDD. The only issue is, I'd like to keep all my files and documents on the HDD, with the Windows OS and some of my most commonly used games on the SSD. What would be the best route of approach to this? Is there some type of program I can use to transfer the OS over, but leave the personal files? I have a SATA to USB, for the info.

Thanks so much!

you should be able to use a disk cloner tool like acronis true image to clone your 2tb over to the SSD given their is enough space.

Well, I'm not looking to clone the disk, I'm looking to just transfer the Windows OS and leave the rest of my files and personal documents.

Unless someone else knows of a good way to do this I'm going to say that that is going to be difficult. To relocate the OS to the new drive all the programs, libraries and such will have incorrect directories. You'll pretty much have to tell your machine where each thing is one by one, program by program

I was going to possibly go on Acronis and choose all the Program Files and everything except my personal documents and certain games, check them to be cloned to the SSD and let it do it's magic. After it's done, I'll just delete everything from the HDD except my personal files and all.

I don't believe it allows 'some'.
All or nothing.

Try it, and let us know.

This is true, all or nothing. And even if it did let you pick and choose you'd still have directory issues, having to fix each one.
