Is a 24 pin motherboard better than 20 pin for some reason?

I read that a motherboard with 20 pins for the power supply is "older", but is there a critical reason why I would want or need a 24 pin "newer" motherboard instead? I am on a low budget for my computer, and this is the first one I have ever built, and I am not that knowledgeable whether this is important, or even an issue at all.

The motherboard I am getting says it supports 4th Generation Intel CPUs, LGA 1150.

I am using a Pentium G3258 with it. Thanks

That motherboard(beside being bottom of the barrel quality wise) uses a 24-pin power connector(look at the pics of the board). If you are trying to use an old 20-pin PSU then I would highly suggest just buying a newer PSU.

I'm not sure I understand your question. If your buying a motherboard that supports a Haswell or Haswell refresh then it uses a 24 pin motherboard power connector. I'm not aware of any new models that come with 20pin connectors these days. If you are considering a model using 20pin then it must be an older model which means the CPUs it supports are older perhaps EOL and don't have all the features of the newer models.

I'm not to crazy about Biostar they don't seem quite as good as they used to be. The 3 main brands I like the best are ASUS, GIGABYTE, and MSI. ASRock is popular with a lot of gamers because of their feature to price ratio. I've had back luck with them bowing with heavy VGA cards.
