What is the best and most powerful CPU I can get for my Motherboard ASRock k10n78fullhd-hsli r3.0 I have a AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 2.7 GHz, Brisbane at the moment but this system is being handed down and will probably live its days out playing Sims..

I would go with a phenom ii x4 965. You will probably have to do a bios update but that is a pretty good cpu. You could go with a phenom ii x6 1055t but if you arent doing a whole lot of multi threaded applications then the 965 will work just fine.

Here is the CPU support list for that board.

Don't let people fool you. The phenom ii series are still very viable. I am running a 1055t @ 4.0ghz and it blows away my buddes fx 6300.

Hope this helps.

Ah but I am moving on, this is a hand me down to the wife and I would like to get a better CPU for her.. I did think the Phenom but I wasn't sure and I'm pretty sure I will have to update the Motherboard BIOS.. cool and thanks for the quick response..

I wasn't sure if it supported AM3 as I built it about 4 years ago..

According to the CPU support list, it should support most AM3 CPU's. Some of the older AM2+ motherboards could run AM3 cpu's with a bios update, since most AM3 CPU's support DDR2.

You will need to update your bios to version p2.30.

The reason your manual it doesn't say it supports AM3 CPU's is they probably didn't exist when the motherboard was manufactured/designed.
