Right now I am using an amd a6-3600 2.0 ghz paired with a radeon r7 260x direct CU II. I know I have a bottleneck, how much of a fps increase should I see if I upgrade to a fx-6300? Thanks.

Just to be aware you will have to change your motherboard too as your old CPU is using socket AM2 and the FX-6300 you want to buy is on socket AM3+
And if you are going to upgrade both CPU and Motherboard it would be better spending an extra $30 or so and buying the FX-6350 instead if you are planing to stay with AMD. Intel has better options but could be more expensive.

Id take the opportunity to go intel and get a nice i3. It supports hyperthreading and uses 4 total threads. It would serve you better then the amd option. Come with me and join the glorious intel master race. Your minimum framerate would be higher and considerably more consistent. As would the average and highs. Depending on the game you would see anywhere between 20 fps difference and 70fps. Games like Natural selection 2, Day Z, Rust, Planetside, World of warcraft and every indie game ever which are the definition of cpu dependent would see the biggest jump. Not to mention the microstutter I would experience playing these cpu dependent games on my old 8320.
