Alright guys,

I've been having a bit of a problem with my computer lately.

While that is another story entirely, I have been thinking that I may want to start updating my desktop. She's a good... 3 years old by now. (Or maybe I shouldn't update.)

Anyway, regardless of whether I should or not, I've forgotten everything I taught myself about building a computer. Blame that on two concussions. (I know the knowledge is in my brain somewhere, but I can't get it.)

I know there are things I'm supposed to pay attention to when swapping out parts, things that need to match, etc.

Thanks for your time!

Let's start by finding out what you have now. Then we'll know what you need to look out for.

Please tell us the detailed specifications of your PC. This means the make/model/type of your

- CPU
- Motherboard
- RAM (we can probably work this out from the motherboard if it's tricky)
- Power Supply (very important)

1. budget?
2. expected performance?

things to look for with regards to compatibility:
CPU/mobo same socket (i.e. LGA1155/1150, etc.)
RAM supported by mobo
RAM same frequency, voltage, CAS latency (best to just buy the exact same stick at once)
PSU sufficient power for entire system

Right now, I'm looking to replace the graphics card. Something in the $100-200 range, no more. When/if I replace more depends on my desire for a laptop vs desktop power.

Your PSU and RAM will be able to go into a new build. You probably want to upgrade CPU and motherboard as they are pretty old now but it depends what you want to use your PC for, gaming?

Do you have a graphics card?

Gaming mostly. Shitty internet though, so thats really holding it back.

Its AMD Radeon 6900 series. other than that, I have no idea what it is. I didn't buy it, that particular piece came from my ex. She has the one I purchased.
