Hey everyone, I've been here before when I've had problems and I could always find someone else with the same thing, so I never needed to ask a question. But now I do.
I have a WD My Book and something went seriously wrong. I wouldn't exactly call this a crash, so much as a really bad hiccup. I've had it for a few years, and it's been acting up lately, seeming to lose data and whatnot. Well, yesterday it started showing no files.
I don't mean that it's not showing the drive. I can unlock it, and my Mac proudly lets me know that there are 0 files and 555.71 GB free. In terminal, I can only find a found.000 folder (with nothing in it). I've tried un-hiding all of my files as well, to no avail. There's also the .DS_Store, and something called .FSEventSD or something like that, if that helps.
I'm running Mac OSX Lion, but I started using this drive on a PC, and it's in NTFS format. I've been using it with the Paragon NTFS driver. I used Disk Utility on it yesterday, thinking maybe I could get it to repair... I hit repair, Disk Utility said, "Nope!" and everything disappeared.
If you need anymore information to help me figure out what's wrong, please let me know. I've been reading over a lot of other people's success stories in recovering data, and I hope I can be one of them.
Thank you so much in advance for your consideration on my issue. Have a great day.

Hey there, Mitch!

I'm truly sorry to hear about the issue you are facing with My Book Essential. :(
You mentioned you use it on both a Windows PC and a Mac. None of them can see your files, is that so?
I'd suggest to plug it in the Windows PC and run Data LifeGuard Diagnostics on it:
http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?groupid=810...
This will determine if there's any damage on the My Book Essential.
While on Windows, you can you access the drive using Disk Management and share/take a screenshot with My Book's status there?
If you have a backup of it, you can re-format it straight away into FAT32 (This file system is recognized without a problem by both Win OS and Mac OS X) so you won't need to use any additional recognition drivers.

Hope this helps. Keep me posted!
