Should I upgrade to a GTX 980 from a 580?

Hey guys. Was hoping I could get some advice on whether or not it'd be a good time to upgrade my CPU. I'm thinking of getting a new Nvidia GTX 980. I've got a 580 at the moment, and its starting to struggle with a lot of newer games.

Are the 980's such a big leap over the 580s? Price wise, is it a good time now to make the jump. What about the 970 instead? I can afford the 980, but I'd go for the best if its worth it.

Another factor is the power. From what I've read, the 980s actually use a lot less power than my 580, despite being more powerful. Should it work fine with the rest of my setup?

Here's everything in my current setup.

Corsair 16G (4x4GB) Vengeance CMZ16GX3M4A1600C9 DDR3
Intel Core i7 2600K Processor LGA1155 3.4GHz CPU
Asus P8Z68-V PRO Socket 1155 Intel Z68 Chipset
Crucial RealSSD C400 128G SATA3 M4 Series
Western Digital Blue 500G SATA3 HDD Caviar Blue
Antec 620W High Current Gamer Modular PSU
Fractal Design Define R3 Case Arctic White edition
Noctua NH-C12P SE14 CPU Cooler
eVGA GTX580 1536MB SuperClocked 797Mhz PCIE

thanks a lot.

Solution
You will be fine.

I just helped someone who has the i5-2500K and they plan to get the GTX 970. So you will not have a problemIMO. If you feel a lack of perfromance then overclock.

Nice build and no upgrades needed. Just the graphics card.

Whoa, thanks for the quick replies guys.

My 560 evga card is pretty noisy at the moment when its getting pushed. Is there any particular brand you guys would recommended instead? I wouldn't mind trying out another brand if they're supposed to provide quieter cards. Obviously, overall quality and reliability is still more important though.

thanks.

The price isn't that much of an issue. If I'm already going to pay like $800, then another $100 or so doesn't bother me too much. I'll probably go the Strix. it does have that whole mean looking robot bird gimmick after all.

I'll try those other places too. I'll reply back with how I get on. Thanks for all the help.

So I'm not sure, but I might have a bit of an issue with actually fitting one of these cards into my case. I'm looking at the specs for the Strix in particular.

The 580 is 10.5 inches long. The 980 is 11.36 though, so not a whole lot bigger, but it looks like it might hit that HDD bay in my case.

here's a pic:

EDIT: Looking up the specs of my case, it says on Fractal's site that it supports GPUs up to 290mm in length. the Strix's length of11.36 comes to 288.5mm, so it looks like it should fit. Is that ok to have things so tight in there?
