is your gpu overclocked ? you may need to replace thermal pads and thermal paste. try using an older driver.

I dont have my GPU overclocked. I have thermal paste, but I dont have thermal pads. Where can I buy thermal pads?

that is why.

no thermal pads mean gpu ram overheat = artifacts. you can use tinfoil and thermal paste on both sides. that will work better.

Wouldnt the thermal paste spill out the sides? Can you explain how to make those thermal pads?

no it wouldnt if you used the right amount

get tin foil

make it thick enough to fill the gap between the memory and the ram

place thermal paste on both sides of the tin foil

re-assemble gpu

I'm not even going to go into all the reasons this is a terrible idea. You have an HD 6970. How old is it? It's very likely you just have an old GPU that is failing. There is no way a card suddenly develops artifacts because here on 5 years after it was new it suddenly needs tin foil on the VRAM. I would think that tin would actually act as an insulator and make the card run hotter. There is a reason no heat sinks are made with it.
