CPU: a10-7850k @ 4.0Ghz, (no GFX overclock)
sapphire radeon HD 7770 1GB,
16GB 1333Mhz ram (Corsair xms3)
Corsair force 3 120GB
MSI A78m-e35 mobo
what is the MOST IMPORTANT next upgrade for..
gaming performance?
Productivity?

More about : bottleneck system

The A10 will be able to keep up with a much faster gfx card than your HD 7770. That would be the best upgrade depending on your PSU make/model.

What exactly do you mean by productivity?
Probably an SSD would be the best for productivity.

EDIT: Oops, didn't see you already had an SSD. Then, I don't really see any easy improvement for productivity.
For gaming, yes, a better GPU.

He already has a Corsair force 3 120GB solid state drive.

GPU for gaming performance. Is it worth the upgrade? With your current setup, you wont be able to push that far ahead without your cpu bottle necking. So lets say you're going to swap out your HD 7770 for a 7850, it's not worth it imo.
What psu do you have?

Tom's Hdwr ranks the A10-7850k in the same tier as the Fx-6300 for gaming. It should be able to handle a faster gfx card than the HD 7850/R7-265. It's in the same tier as my Phenom II X4 965BE, and it is holding its own with a R9-280. Lets the card run at 100% usage in every game I've tested.

Good call clutchc. Everyone sees an A10 and just assumes it is a very incapable CPU. On passmark, it scores 5,631. The CPU right below it is the i3-4370 which scores a 5,614. So I would say it could even handle a 280x. Might hold it back a little, but can't tell unless I could test it myself.

I'm not going to argue with this because I think you have a better understanding of this technology then I do. I was under the impression that a card such as a R9 280 side by side with the APU would cripple and throttle the system. If you look at its integrated graphics, it's no doubt one of if not the best processor's around but looking individually at the cores, they are still pretty weak. But if you're saying you've tested it, then you've tested it and it will work without bottlenecks haha

I haven't tested the A10-7850K, but I have tested cards in the same tier as it is in, including the slightly older A10-5800K. The Newer, faster Steamroller Kaveri is a 3.7 Ghz/4.0 Ghz processor using the same Bulldozer modules as the FX-4300/6300 uses, minus the L3 cache.

And no, I'm not up for an argument either ;-)

thanks guys, now GPU wise what is the BEST upgrade option for an upgrade that will last me more than the 4 months the sapphire card did? PSU is a kentech 800w (not a great PSU but reviews weren't bad and it had the power i needed)

Mosti, its actually a quite terrible CPU using much the same architechture ad bulldozers, which i did not like. but my last CPU an FX-6100 died on me, so i needed a fast replacement. the a10 gave me quick upgrade but it really doesnt have the same raw processing power and an FX-61 or 6300, just from a x264 encoding standpoint. i had to purchase an avermedia card to be able to stream at 60Fps, something my 6100 handled pretty well for an amd. being so new, these APus are a very new subject for me, and i hoped someone here had a better idea on a new upgrade.

I really don't know much about these so I'm not going to suggest cards etc for you as I don't know whether they'd be a good choice or not. I personally thought this cpu would bottleneck with a high tier card, especially in cpu intensive games but again, I don't know much about these, only from what I've read online.

would higher speed ram affect this in any way? i know that APUs in general benefit directly from higher frequency ram.
