Hey all,

So here I am, new to overclocking GPUs, and having a real fun time playing around with my gigabyte R9 270X. I hear this is a wonderful card to OC due to having a great triple fan cooling system.

I have OC'd the card to around 1160MHz core clock with a 1460MHz core clock. I ran benchmarks with fur and Valley. What I did was continuously up the graphics speeds keeping the scores and fps in mind and stopped the OC as I hit decreases in performance.

I'm not sure if this is a coincidence, but I'd like to know whether an unstable OC could crash games. I haven't seen artefacts or anything but I was wondering whether an unstable OC could crash games, or make games slower to parse, despite having a fine benchmark in Valley?

Thanks guys!

The benchmarked are usually good indications that your card is stable. That being said however, you cannot beat real world testing... Play the game you like to death and see what happens. I have a 280x (not the greatest clocker) currently have it stable at 1140/1600. I ran it through Heaven benchmark 15 times without a glitch at 1160/1600 and ran the card for 2 weeks without problems. I ran into issues then playing Shadow Of Mordor at Ultra settings for long periods of time, dropped the clock back a bit and haven't had any issues since. Not that you need an excuse to game in excess, but here it is :)

Try Heaven benchmark, I find it a better GPU tester personally. I have run valley without issues in the past and Heaven would bring up...
