Lagging while computer is basically idle

Hey guys so in these past few weeks I've started having this annoying lag in my computer. I never had this before except when I was doing some CPU intensive stuff like rendering a 5GB 1080p video. I've been trying to pinpoint the problem through troubleshooting but to no avail. The happens usually when I only have a mozilla firefox browser open with at least 5 different pages on it but its still there when I close it. The CPU utilization can be under 5% and it still lags insanely. Could it be the GPU? The GPU is idling at 836MHz and its boost clock is 1150MHz, I'm not sure if this is normal it seems high to me. I mostly notice the lag when moving a window from on screen to another, the movement is not smooth as it should and rather moves in intervals. It just feels as if I had 5 BF4 open and running. Any inputs will help!

Computer Specs:

Solution
http://www.asus.com/au/Motherboards/SABERTOOTH_Z77/ - install your uefi bios and post cpu temps.

edit - I use and recommend Avast (free vesrion) and Malwarebytes (also free) - both from CNET.

Firefox used to be the best Web browser that there was, until they got past 10.0. Now it is comparable to IE, which sucks. I'd have no doubt that it's Firefox and not you pc. Download and install google chrome and see if you notice the difference

The problem happens when Firefox is closed as well. I have an Asus Z77 Sabertooth motherboard and the CPU temperatures are usually below 25 Celcius when I'm just browsing the web (when I get these lags), And no I don't have malware of any sort I do checkups every couple of days and am very wary of such threats!

Well, at least we ruled the malware out. Have you tried using the onboard GPU instead just to see if the problem persists?

If the PC works well with the integrated GPU then you can at least be sure that the 780 Ti is the culpable; and then you can try finding a solution - like removing drivers with some driver sweeper and installing the latest drivers and so on.

Hey guys so I did a bit more troubleshooting and it turns out it was either 11 infections I had when I tested with Malwarebytes (which I don't even know how I got) or an excessive amount of temp files. I used CCleaner and had 64GB of trash lol, my computer is running perfectly now thanks!
