Hey guys, excuse my idiotism if this thread is in the wrong category. I couldn't find one along the lines of "Will this run this"..
Anyways, I have been window shopping on a couple of websites to buy a good "pre built" pc. I honestly don't wanna go through the hassle of building it myself or wait for someone else to do it for me. So I've been running through ebay trying to find the cheapest deals for a mid-high end desktop.
I found these two systems that I've got my eyes on;

Intel i5 4440, GTX 770, 8 Gigs o' ram - $1,139
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Intel-Quad-Core-i5-4440-3-1GHz-GTX770-2GB-1TB-8GB-Computer-Gaming-Desktop-PC-/291112538789?pt=AU_comp_dekstop&hash=item43c7a8d2a5

Intel i7 4970, GTX 970, 8 Gigs o' ram - $1,398
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/INTEL-Core-i7-4790-3-6GHz-1TB-8GB-GTX970-4GB-Gaming-Computer-Quad-Desktop-PC-/291247289341?pt=AU_comp_dekstop&hash=item43cfb0f3fd

Now, I've got these questions regarding these systems;

Is it worth getting these over a PS4 in the long run? i.e how future proof are these?

So how would a game from 2016 (or '17) look like in a comparison with a PS4 and the systems above?
I know you guys aren't genies but hella lot smarter than me with this stuff
We know PS4's, Xbones' are gonna last the next 6-8 years, right?

And also, WHICH system should I get? Is it worth spending the extra $257 on a Core i7 and GTX 970?

What types of games do you generally play? If you want a gaming rig to last you the next 2-4 years I would suggest getting a i7-3770 or equivalent CPU. Even tho games do not utilize the multi-core structure or the i7's the new Assassin's Creed requires the i7-3770 as a minimum to play and other AAA title developers will have similar minimum requirements for their games in years to come. And as for a GPU, I suggest getting a GTX 980. That should be able to play any game released within the next 2-4 years as long as its paired with a equivalent CPU like a 3770, 4770 or 4790 if you have the money. The motherboard is a not hugely important choice for gaming just make sure that it supports the devices you will be connecting to it. I'd say a...

well i cant speak for everyone but im going to say that the majority of people here are going to tell you to stick to PC for gaming unless you just HAVE to have Uncharted or some other console exclusive. Either one of those machine will run games for many years to come. Its all about your personal price range. PC gaming will always have advantages over console, even as developers continue to pander to the console market for profits.

The second one looks pretty good to me, and I see your in AU so that is a really good deal considering gaming computers in AU are quite expensive. It is definitely worth spending $257 more to get a i7 and a gtx 970 as it will make sure you won't have to upgrade anything for quite a few years. PC gaming is more affordable in the long run compared to a PS4 as you have to buy new games for like $80-90, while PC gaming can be really cheap and you can find really good deals in steam.

I bought a PS4 to replace the PS3 in our living room. Worst mistake I made. You can't do anything on it without going through Sony. We used the PS3 for music, holiday photo's & movies run from an external usb drive and of course CoD and Battlefield free multiplayer. None of these you can do on a PS4 and for multiplayer you need to sign up to £10/month. Sony's now locked the platform down to their services. I also found the graphics were underwhelming. This has spurred me to building a mini-itx system to go under the tv with the intent of it being an all round entertainments system and going back to PC gaming.
Consider the extra cost per year for the PS Network, and the premium cost of console games opposed to the same game for PC on Steam and you'll realise the cost of ownership of the PS or Xbox greatly increases against a PC based system.
Go for the PC.
Compare the cost of using

I'd say a 1200.00-1500.00 budget will enable you to build a PC that you can game on until the next election, hopefully the next mid-term. =]
