I am tempted to upgrade to an SSD for the first time, as I have seen the prices to lower and a very good bargain. Now, I want to know, do I have to format my computer in order to change my boot drive on to the SSD as I have a lot of games and it would take forever to reinstall everything on to the Hard Drive

Thanks for your help guys!

as long as the space available on your future SSD is larger then how much space you are currently using you can clone all your HDD partitions over to the SSD with a drive clone software like Acronis True Image.

But is it possible to keep everything on the HDD as I do not have enough space on the SSD to clone everything from the hard drive

yes. if there isnt enough space then you cant clone the drive. its an all or nothing kind of deal. but if there is enough space then both drive will have identical information on them both bootable

So I guess the only solution is to format everything and just start fresh :(  On the bright side I will remove some unused applications and get more space...
Thanks anyway!

I have a 1TB hard drive and have 638GB free. The SSD I am planning to get it 120GB so definitely not enough

well you could get another form of storage like an external drive. and move your libraries, like music, video, pictures, documents, etc. stuff other then the OS and program files to the external storage device to free up space. Do you think your music, video, pictures, and documents removed from your main drive could reduce the used space to under 120GB, so it would fit that SDD?

-edit-

then you could clone the drive over and not have to worry about reinstalling anything.
