Is it matched ram ? Try them in different orders you might have a dud stick

yeah all same dominator platinum, 4x4gb all in right slots, a1 b1 etc.... was reading up and people said either a dud stick, cpu problem but if in bios it is recognising it why the f is it not in windows, i was thinking, would my gpu take some of that (i have a 770gtx 2gb)

Not unless you dedicate some ram as gpu memory , try 2 at a time in dual you'll find the culprit, what does cpuz say?

on bios it says there 4lots of 4gb on system information it says 12gb, if i had screwed my cpu fan on too tight, surely all the sticks would not be functioning, so surely its not that, right? i might just re apply them, but im installing a few things first

If in bios it says they there and everything's ok I wouldn't worry too much about it might just be a glitch :)

Pull your RAM out and put it back in again. Make sure its fully locked into the DIMM slots.

its randomly, by itself changed and is now saying 16gb is installed lol...don't know what happened there...
Only other problems left are .....my ssd, hdd and optical are all in, bios has acknowledged them and they are all on windows under devices however on computer, it only has c drive ssd, no d drive hdd. but bios says it is there.

Go into Control Panel, Device Manager and check they are all working properly and have latest drivers.
