I am using the stock fan for an amd fx-6300 and have been doing so for a long time
However, recently the CPU has been idleing at about 45 degrees, and when I play games such as payday 2 it can go up to 55 degrees, occasionally a little higher. These results are according to a program i downloaded called speedfan and so may not be very accurate.
Should I get my CPU checked out or is it ok?

that's pretty normal for the fx6300 with the stock heatsink, I have one and it's pretty much the same as yours at 55-57C load temps. If you want lower temps, buy an aftermarket cooler like the 212 Evo as phu937 suggested.

Max core temp for the FX series is 62C

1 Thing about AMD CPU's. THEIR STOCK COOLERS ARE CRAP. Instintivly bought a Coolermaster Hyper 212 EVO back then when I dont know much about computers and thought that CPU don't come with a heatsink and it's amazing. Tip Get an After market Cooler like the 212 Evo or if you dont have much money laying around the the Coolermaster TX3 its the little brother of the 212 EVO and much cheaper.
