Hi, I am Leby. I'm new to building PCs so please don't post confusing stuffs. Anyway, I'm about to build my first ever gaming PC. But I got a bit of a problem. I don't know what to pick, the G3258 or the FX-6300.

I'm going to use my PC mainly for gaming and maybe a bit of recording and video editing. I might buy the G3258 and get a decent MOBO for future CPU upgrade. So what do you think about this, should I get the FX-6300 or the G3258?

How about an i3? Costs the same as FX 6, more upgradibility, efficiency, and better performance than FX 6 or Pentium on stock speeds, you'll need an af cooler both with Pentium to come to i3's level and with FX 6 too. And for video rendering too the HTs will help. But I'd not recommend FX right now, the AM3+ platform is dead.

fx6300 is more comparable to an i3. dont bother with the 3258 just get an i3 or the fx 6xxx. Get the i3 if you want to upgrade to i5/i7 in the future.

Thank you for answering. I'm considering the G3258 because of it's amazing overclocking capability. Also, an overclocked G3258 seems to match with the FX-6300 and i3s gaming performance from what I've seen and read.

I'm thinking of buying an i3 for a better future upgrade path, or a G3258 then overclock it. So what do you think about it? Should I go and get a G3258 then overclock it, or just go with an i3 CPU?

OCed pentium may match an i3 or FX 6 in gaming, but it usually competes with Athlon x4 or FX 4 due to limited cores. For recording or video editing, i3's HTs or FX 6's six logical cores will help more, over Pentium. And I'd go for i3.

Dang, I forgot that i3s are out of my budget. I'm going to get a G3258 and upgrade it as soon as I can. Anyway, could you give me a good MOBO for overclocking it? If so, please choose in this website: http://dynaquestpc.com/product-category/components/moth... because it is the only site I can get my parts from.

The pricing might be a bit confusing, but please help me. My budget is ₱5,000, the lower the better. I'd like to squeeze all the performance I can get from the G3258, thank you.

i3 is cheaper than a FX 6 on that site, not sure why you want Pentium over it, mind you, but you'll require an af heatsink for OCing Pentium. Also, not sure if 5k P is the budget for CPU or MoBo. I'd give you the best value/money for pentium, for OCing. Asus has unlocked OCing features for Pentiums on their H MoBos.

If 5k P is the budget for MoBo, then this would be better:

Also, you can put an i3 on a sub 3k P MoBo.

Thank you for helping me again MeteorsRaining, I'm not gonna explain why I want the G3258 since I'm not good at English. Also can I reach somewhere above 4.0 with the Z87?

Yes, 4.2-4.3GHz should be easy, make sure you grab an af CPU cooler.

but you could get a cheaper motherboard with the i3, and still have better performance than an oc'd g3258, and you wouldnt have to buy an additional cooler, and hope for the best that you get a chip that can oc well, not all of them will.. For me it would be a no-brainer to get an i3.

Actually, I changed my mind. I'm going to buy a much cheaper MOBO, the H81M-C from Asus. The reason why I cannot buy an i3, is because it's really out of my budget. I'm going to change my CPU or maybe even my MOBO as fast as possible. Anyway, thank you for helping iam2thecrowe.
