Hi All,

Just recently purchased a GTX 980 - looking to run 1080p at max settings for the near future.

My system has a i5-4670K. It overclocks to 4.3 GHz very well.

According to the CPU buying guides on Tom's, it isn't really necessary to buy anything more than an i5 for gaming, seeing as most games these days aren't not well-threaded.

Are most people of the opinion that the GTX 980 and the 4670K will work well together? Or will my CPU leave some power of the card untapped?

Thanks!

Even then, it would be a graphics limitation and adding a second GTX 980 in SLI would solve the problem.

I've been very pleased with my i5-4670k for gaming. I actually do recommend overclocking it, not because it will improve your gaming performance, but because it will reduce your loading times and processing times significantly for many games and programs. Unfortunately with haswell it is down to luck how much you'll be able to overclock it. I was able to take mine from 3.6 to 4.4 without any issues but some people can't quite reach that level, and others can go beyond it.
