Wifi obtaining IP problem

Hi,

I'm having this really frustrating problem trying to make my workstation into a wifi hotspot, and I was hoping you guys could help.

I have a 1Gbit cable directly to my computer (dynamic IP, if that matters) and a TP-link wireless USB.

The USB supports hosted network. I have set it up by setting hosted network to 'allow', assigned an SSID and key. Then starting the hosted network and sharing the ethernet connection with that.

I'm trying to connect my Android to the hotspot but it just goes into an endless "obtaining ip" loop (the same is true for my old iPhone as well). I got it to work for a little while, but after disconnecting the USB and moving it to a better place I can't get it to work again (it doens not help moving it back either).

When I try static IP settings I can only connect to the network, but no internet connection. Granted, i'm not sure how a static IP is supposed to be setup here. I have just entered the hosted network ip into my phone.

The wireless USB does not support changing channels or frequency, so I haven't tried that.

The phone says the signal strength is excellent, so it seems im good here.

Anyhow, I have no idea what to do. Any help would be appreciated.

Is the Ethernet cable connected to a router and not a modem-only device? It must be connected to a device that assigns IP addresses via DHCP.

When setting a static IP, you should use an address with a different number in the last octet (not the same as the adapter address).

It's a fibre connection with just a tp-cable to the computer.

I'm not sure which IP adress to use when setting it to static. When I check the IPv4 settings in windows internet connections it gives a different adress then when I check with ipconfig.
Anyhow, trying with both gives the same result (yes, even when changing the number in the last octet). Only limited connectivity.

My phone also asks for gateway IP. Not sure what to set there (tried the same as IP but with "1" in the last octet, which is default, and setting the hosted network ip as gateway).
