I have just bought a Synology DS214play with a WD Red 6 Tb drive, I've not yet configured it or set it up.
I have an old LG NAS N1T1 which comes with a built-in 1 Tb drive, however I can't seem to connect to it anymore on the network - it doesn't show up on the LAN anymore (DHCP devices, it's no longer there), it was working a few weeks ago, seems it doesn't boot up properly now?
It seems to work still as an external HD but I cannot see all the files, I only have access to the 100 GB (default) partition, the rest is hidden in the NAS mode. It still works as an external DVD drive too.
Is there any way that I connect to the LG NAS N1T1 to gain full access to the drive? It doesn't look like it can be easily opened... I assume if I 'factory reset' the LG NAS - it will also lose everything stored on the drive? If I am able to open the LG NAS and take out the hard-drive, would I be able to access the data if I plug it into the Synology NAS? or would I need a PC to access the data (I only have laptops at home).
EDIT: Hmm I see that my Ds214play has an eSATA port, could I use a cable to connect whatever harddrive is inside the LG NAS N1T1 and have full access to move the files to the Synology?
