Hello i have bought a new HDD for data, its WD RED 3 TB, i already runned some test like check the smart, i run the program HD Tune pro trial on it concretely, Benchmark, File Benchmark ( several times), random acces, Error scan quick a error scan "full" (not quick checked), which lasted i think 7 hours. So far everyting seems ok, not error reported etc.

Is it enough for a new disk as a test and can i start putting data on it?

I read somewhere that it is a good idea to do a "stress test" (or how to call it) for a newly bought HDD, it should run 24 hours, 3 days... I read it on some HW page.

Is it true that i should perform such test, wont it shorter the life of the disc itself?

There is no reason to perform the test. Drives are tested before they leave the factory.

Especially as it is by a reputable brand, there is no reason for you to not put data on it immediately upon receipt.

Hi there thomas81br,

I would agree with Mattios and say that there is no point in performing stress test after you have tested it already. You can run the WD's Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tool if you want though, as it is brand specific software.
Keep in mind that you should back up your most important data, no matter whether the hard drive is brand new or not.
