Haswell Refresh or Skylake for CPU upgrade?

So I'm currently on an AMD Athlon X4 750K at 4.2GHz OC, but to be honest, I'm not really happy with it. When I bought it, I thought I would be doing a mix of single and multi-threaded workloads, but I actually ended up doing a ton of single-threaded stuff and virtually no multi-threaded stuff.

I mainly play Dolphin Emulator, and I also do programming and play Team Fortress 2 & Ultra Street Fighter IV (the latter two not being CPU intensive at all. I am not that big of a gamer.

It is for these reasons that I am considering upgrading my CPU to an Intel-based one for the best performance in the things that I do. To be clear, I generally mean the best single-threaded performance, though I don't know if I should get Haswell Refresh now or wait for Skylake?

There have been rumors that Broadwell will not have i3, Pentium or Celeron-based CPUs (high end only), and I have considered waiting for Skylake. However, on the same level, I have also considered getting Haswell Refresh at Christmas (I'm on a tight £100 budget!), whether that be a G3258 or an i3-4150.

The Intel Pentium G3258 is only "decent" when overclocked, in my opinion. Otherwise it's a very low-end machine. THe Intel Core i3 processors cannot be overclocked at all. Only the Intel COre i5 and i7 machines with a K-suffix have unlocekd cores that allow them to be overclocked. Some high-end motherboards with the OC nomenclature used to allow Intel PCs to be auto-overclocked by forcing them into Turb-boost mode. Not sure if that proactice still continues.

Broadwell and Skylake, over time will announce processors in all ranges, perhaps not at first announce, but over the life of the silicon. Look for huge advances in TDP and power efficiency and modest advances in instruction execution speed. THe battle for Intel is currently in getting processors that work well in mobile - not so much in high-performance areas where it is unchallenged.

I wouldn't upgrade as it is fast enough for the games you need. I would only upgrade if the current cpu is slowing down your machine Haswell e is focused on efficiency. I would wait till skylake if you need the extra power. Also forgive me if anything is not correct. I am not familiar with desktop cpus.
