Hi all. This is my first post in Tom's Hardware. Hopefully I'm posting this in the right forum. I recently upgraded my Windows 7 32 bit into a 64 bit system. I selected my Drive C for installing Windows in the option in the very beginning. But after installation I saw that my other partitions have been completely messed up. Many files are missing and a new partition has been created called system reserved. However I haven't copied or deleted anything on these partitions. Can I recover my data, the data which seems to have magically disappeared? This is really urgent as a large number of work related files are in these partitions. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance

a) Did you create a fresh, empty partition on the drive to install Windows on like you are supposed to on a drive that contains data you want to keep?

b) Did you back up your data to a separate hard drive or to optical media before proceeding with Windows installation?

If the answer is "No" to both questions, your data has been overwritten and you've lost it.
You should never rely on only one hard drive to save your data on, especially when you are going to install Windows on it.
