For a while I had my monitor hooked up using a displayport cable, but every once in a while when my computer woke up, the monitor speakers would start buzzing. When I asked on here what I should do, the responses just said that maybe I should get a sound card which I did but nothing changed and so with nothing else to go on, I just switched over to a DVI-D cable and audio cable. For a while I didn't notice anything, but one time when I was playing a game with the audio muted, as soon as the graphics engine started to be tasked, the monitor speakers making a whining sound. This has been the case every time I take off my headphones (because normally there is too much game sound to notice with the headphones on).

Should I RMA my GPU or Monitor, or is there something else that might be causing it?

It wouldn't be your GPU because you don't have audio connected to the graphics card, so I'd RMA your monitor.

a sound card will pick up wifi and cell phone. having them too close will make a pc whine. also a bad ground in the power supply or wall outlet. the last is coil whine and sometime is a mix of the gpu/mb and power supply. start with the mb make sure you used brass standoffs and the right size screws for grounding. make sure the io shield is used. make sure in the case none of the audio or power cables run over the gpu or cpu or the audio cable run near a power cable. on the mb make sure the newest bios file on in and try changing the power settings see if the whine is louder or softer. try another test power supply and try the monitor on another pc.

I know that a lot of those factors can play into it as I'm an electrician, but you can rule out most of those just because it only happens when the graphics card is being used heavily, right? And what do you mean having them too close? Also, it's the speakers that are whining, not the PC.

I would like if I could find an answer to this, as my warranty time will expire shortly for those two items.
