mp3 players versus my car stereo- who rules the roost?

I have several audiobooks downloaded on my computer, and of course I'd like to listen to them on long road trips with my 2011 Kia Soul.

When I plug an mp3 player into my car's usb port, it has no problems reading the audiobook files. However, problems come in when I make a stop along the way- my car forgets where I was in the story. When I restart the car, I'm back to the beginning of the book. So, I have to jump back to the right track, and then tediously fast forward to where I left off.

Hitting pause on the mp3 player doesn't help, because once I plug into my car, all I have to work with are the dashboard controls on the car. The mp3 player controls are totally disabled.

I've tried two different brands of mp3 players, and encountered the same issues with both. Any suggestions?

Your issue has to do with how the mp3 player is connected to your car. Connecting using USB causes your mp3 players to be treated same as a thumbdrive, or if you synced it with your computer.

If you have an auxiliary port (looks just like a headphone jack), that should allow you to control playback using the mp3 player's controls.

Thanks, Casey.

One question:

The advantage of using my usb port is that it continually charges my mp3 player. If I connect via my auxiliary port, then I'm limited to my mp3 player's battery life. Any suggestions on how to get around this?
