Hello peoples!

I currently have a r9 270 by powercolor

I plan on purchasing an r9 280 by msi

Can I crossfire these two cards?

my cpu is an fx 8320

mother board is a GIGABYTE GA-78LMT-USB3

And if this is possible would I actually see significant improvements over just running the r9 280 solo?

More about : r9270 crossfire r9280

You have to Xfire the same base card, such as 280 and 280, 7970 and 280x etc.
Even if the cards would work together, you only have one PCIe X16 lane, your motherboard wouldnt support Xfire.

However, I would highly recommend not going from a 270 to a 280, its simply not a large performance increase. Look into something like a 970 as a minimum upgrade.

You will get scaling as if you were running 2xR270s in crossfire. perhaps similar performance of a R290. why not save the cash and get another R270?

after more searching.....it may not be possible to crossfire those two gpu's although i havent found a definitive answer.

You can't crossfire 270 with 280. You can crossfire it with 270, 270x and 7870. 280 is going to be 30+/-10% improvement (depends on clocks). Maybe you can sell 270 for like 130 bucks (if you got warrancy - why not?) and you should have enough for gtx 970, then it would be 2 times improvement.
