Hello I recently bought a GTX760 which is amazing I get 100-180 fps on minecraft even with a 5 or 6 year old processor and motherboard and 4 gb ram. But I want to record my gameplay and upload it to Youtube. When I start recording with fraps it almost instantly drops to 30-40 fps. Also I am already playing on low quality settings due to my cpu. What can I do to improve the fps while recording. Any computer settings? New CPU and motherboard? More ram? All of the above? Thanks!

well, for starters - do you record on the same drive your system/games are located?

Start with 8GB of ram. You probably can just buy a second 4GB kit, as long as what you have now is DDR3 and not filling all the slots on your motherboard.

It would help me determine if you need a CPU upgrade if I knew what cpu you had. :p
That being said, if you have to play minecraft on low because of it, then adding the lag of recording probably isn't helping things.

What power supply do you have?

Welcome to FRAPS! FRAPS is a great program for high performance pcs, however for low end it's not that great.

Install MSI Afterburner, it has the best video capturing software I've ever seen, I use it on my GT 540M and i5 2410M and it makes my machine fell like a new computer since I can achieve 60fps sometimes in games.

well, yes, it will...
because for running system/games you need to access and read files as fast as possible.
to record stuff you'll need something you can write files as fast as possible.
which is kinda hard to do on the same drive.

try a test - plug in a pen drive or a external drive and try to record on it. it should help a bit.

I was actually thinking about that already. My neighbor who is a tech guy suggested that I get a 500gb drive that wrote the files very fast. I think it was something black edition. any suggestions on a hard drive

I was running a stress test to check what was running hard and it said that it was memory that was being used the most. The meter was at the top and didn't ever dip while recording

yes, a fast drive such as wd black or a seagate barracuda would help a lot.

Ok thanks I'll let you know how it goes. Saved me some money. As opposed to buying a 150$ motherboard and 250 CPU I'm buying a 90$ Hard drive haha
