I have a Nvidia GT 630 which earlier use to down clock itself to 405MHz from 810MHz when nothing intensive was going on in the system. But lately i'm seeing that its not doing that. Its running at 810MHz constantly. Did Nvidia change something in there drivers?
Also i read that this could happen if it recognizes a program as a game. If so how can i find which program is causing this?

More about : gpu clocking

What happens when you manually adjust with Afterburner ?

If i manually create a profile that down clocks it to 405MHz and assign it to the 2D profile. It works. It runs at 405MHz in idle and shoots upto 810MHz when running GPU-Z and back down again on closing GPU-Z.

But shouldn't this happen on its own?

If you had AB loading at startup, it should be assigning whatever profile is there. If loading at startup is disabled, it should return to default behavior. Have you used GPUz to see what load it is seeing when this behavior is taking place ?

Thats the funny part. There is no load on the GPU according to GPU-Z.

AB is loaded but its switching to the 3D profile as soon as i start GPU-Z.

To get to the heart of the matter, gonna have to make sure AB not loaded.... that might be the problem.

I installed AB because of this issue. It happened even before AB was installed.

“When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever left, however improbable, must be the truth.”

That's a quote from Sherlock Holmes.... but in order to isolate the problem, you have to remove all possible influences ... to many possibilities at this point. I start solving problems by disabling a few items at a time in the startup list until the problem goes away of I have eliminated the entire list from consideration.
