I have an HP W2371d monitor. It has a VGA and DVI-D port, but no 3.5mm audio jack, or any audio jack for that matter. Now, I have a pc connection on my VGA, and an HDMI connection with my xbox. I need to hook up my xbox via hdmi to my monitor, and I could easily get a Female HDMI to Male DVI-D adapter, however, I am pretty positive they don't carry sound. Seeing as i have no audio jack, how am I supposed to make this work?

Youre right DVI doesn't carry sound. So you cant do anything if you want sound. Unless you buy a monitor with HDMI on it. And one thats got audio out on it

What if I used the DVI for sound and used the other cable for sound output from the xbox to a sound system? You can modify the stock xbox cable I believe.

Had same problem. Bought a cable DVI-D to HDMI. For sound well first i took xbox original component cable. Now component and HDMI cannot be connected at a time. So u connect HDMI and then you take a knife and cutoff the blackbox of the other end of component cable. Now component cable will be thin so u will be able to connect HDMI-DVI cable for video and Component cable for sound. In component cable you dont use yellow cable but only red and white. I connect red and white in my woofers. Well you could also buy a Y-adapter in which you connect red and white cable and on the other end you get a 3.5mm audio jack.

Hope i helped. If so select this as solution.
