Good afternoon.

I recently upgraded my mainboard + CPU + memory, leaving my GTX 570 alone until I can squeeze a 970 into my budget. It belatedly occurred to me that the 4790k has an iGPU and my discrete video card is pretty ancient as these things go.

What would be the best way to go about deciding which of the two would be the superior gaming solution at this point? My experience with integrated video dates back from when such solutions were still part of the mainboard, so this CPU-based business is alien territory to me.

Years back, I would have never considered an integrated GPU over a discrete. Nowadays, I'm just not sure. I've heard a lot of good things but old habits are hard to shake.

(EDIT: If I do indeed go the iGPU route, what sorts of things should I be aware of before venturing boldly into this uncharted territory?)

The 570 is massively better than the HD 4600 integrated graphics on the 4790K.

Never go the iGPU route. Your GTX 570 is hundred times faster than the HD 4600. Definitely stick with the GTX 570 until you get the much better 970.

The GTX 570 is still pretty good for most games. In fact I don't know of any game that it doesn't at least meet the minimum requirements to play.

Wow. Amazingly swift responses from all. You've kept me from wasting my time too as I had planned to switch over in a bit if I couldn't dig up some reliable information. I will stick with the 570 until I can swing the updated card.

Many thanks, all.
