Hey guys.
So basically I have been having problems with my computer and I reached the conclusion that it is my HDD. My question is can I use another hard drive from a different computer without formatting it. Iy is gonna be transferred on a system with an 5yr old Intel Pentium Dual Core 2 gigs of ram and a geforce 9500gt from a like 3-4yr old amd athlon cpu 3 gigs of ram and an ati hd3600. This is it. All replies would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe. Windows is linked to the motherboard so you will need to reactivate it. If you have the retail version of Windows it should be fine just enter the key. If you have the OEM version than you will need a new key. Sometimes it flat out won't work.

Old Intel system to not quite so old AMD system.....reinstall is almost certainly needed.
Doubtful it will boot.

Licensing is a whole other question.

Okay. Will I have to wipe clean the entire HDD or just the partition with the system files?

If you're going to reinstall, wipe the whole drive.

Just read your first post again and it is actually the other way around. I am moving the HDD from the amd system to the intel system. Not a big difference probably. Still need the reinstall, I guess.

Right. Either direction, probably will not boot properly.
