Yeah, old information i'm after, today of 2014 :) .

So here are the scenarios that i'm interested:

1) Q6600 @ 2.4 (stock) + 1x 8800 GTX (@ stock) at 720p = No bottleneck ?
2) Q6600 @ 2.4 (stock) + 1x 8800 GTX (@ stock) at 1080p = No bottleneck?

3) E8400 @ 3.0 (stock) + 1x 8800 GTX (@ stock) at 720p = No bottleneck ?
4) E8400 @ 3.0 (stock) + 1x 8800 GTX (@ stock) at 1080p = No bottleneck?

5) Any other Socket 775 processor that is better than the above 2 in all the scenarios, something like Q8xxx or Q9xxx series?

Any input is of great help.

Thank you

LE: Asking about games that are not necessarily from 2014. Just the relation between the CPU and GPU. Even simply, i want the CPU to be > that the video card.

(already have a i7 2700k + GTX 760, the above is just 'for old times sake / melancholy' build i want to do)

If you mean in modern games, neither CPUs nor the GPU would be adequate at either resolution.

youre pairing excellent performing cpu's with a gpu from basically the same generation of tech(gpu is slightly older). i dont see you bottlenecking that gpu under any of those situations.

Hello , I would go to your first scenario since your 8800 gtx would better run on 720p than on 1080p , and dont worry about bottleneck , because your Q6600 wont bottleneck you gpu at all so dont worry. Q6600 is probably one of the best 775 socket for gaming. I wouldnt update a socket 775 at this point , but if u want to stick with this socket i would buy a E4300 since is the best cpu for gaming on this particular socket. Of course its not gonna run the latest games on high settings at all. But it will sure run most of the games
Hope this helps and Happy gaming :)
