Hey there, i recently buy some parts and build my own pc.

the motherboard: GA-G31M-ES2L from gigabyte company.
the cpu: intel xeon E5472 ( lga771 )

yes, the cpu is a lga771 but i use a mod which make it work for lga775 motherboard. ( it is special correction made , they sell these on ebay and its popular mod ).

so when i boot the computer, it runs for like 25 seconds, then it stop on its own.

thing is that no graphic shows on the monitor. i use a vga monitor, so i simply hook the vga cable to the computer onboard vga, no video.

then i tried hooking my gpu , then get video from there but doesnt work.

the bad that i have to admit, is that the cpu fan n heatsink setup wouldnt fit on the motherboard ( they are my older heatsink n fan ), so i i tried to build the setup myself; i took a small heatsink i had off spare ( its the exact size of the cpu but 2 times larger ), and then put it on the cpu.

then i was able to build some pressure so that the fan above the heatsink stay there without moving ( used screws n stuffs ).

so basically, the heatsink is not a cpu heatsink, the heatsink used come from an old nintendo console .... anyways.

also, the system's fan is not powered cuz the wires arent long enough to be jacked in the motherboard.. so ill have to solder myself those wires so they be longer...

could it be possible that its not working because it get too hot ? i touch the heatsink after booting but its not hot at all.

for a reminder, the cpu works at 1600 mhz front side bus, but my motherboard says it support 1600 mhz fsb throught overclocking....

so its that supose to work together ??

can someone help me a bit please ? i dont want to burn my motherboard or sumthing.

thank you !!

Until you have a known good/compatible cpu on a known good MB with a known good PSU, it will be hard to say with any certainty what is causing your '25 sec power off' syndrome.

Certainly a non-supported cpu with some sort of 'mod' is not the best way to start the troubleshooting process.

francois, you do know you need a modded bios for 99% of the boards that you do 771/775 mod.

well i read just a tad about it, some people said that it need a bios mod just so the BIOS recognize the cpu name or sumthing....

mmm.... problem is i dont know how to do bios modding... if someone can enlighten me then thanks , ill prop you !
