I recently bought a Samsung 840 EVO 250 gigabytes and tried using Paragon to migrate JUST the windows folder to the SSD, because i only want to boot windows off it for now. But when i boot windows off the SSD its is.. messed up, to say the least. I suspect this is because i am copying less files than i should using Paragon. So my question is, what files do i need to put on my SSD to run windows and nothing else?

Thank you so much for your help!

I always recommend a fresh install on a new SSD. Given a 256GB SSD, you do NOT want only Windows on it. You are missing out on a whole lot of SSD goodness.

You could flail about trying to fix this migration thing for a few days, or you could just bite the bullet and reinstall, knowing that it actually works.

The only application I am aware of to migrate only the OS is this non-free solution:
http://www.paragon-software.com/technologies/components...

Is that what you used?

Boot from your install media, install on the new SSD.
But if this is a preinstalled OS, then your options are limited.

Again, though....a 256GB drive is more than enough to hold the OS and a crapton of applications. Having 'just the OS' leaves out a lot of the benefits of the SSD.

Thank you for the answer! It is preinstalled but it came with a recovery disk, will this work also?

Probably. It may see the new, different size drive and choke, but it may work.
Try it and see what happens.
