So I've just had a very bad experience with my first PC build. I went with an Asus H87-Plus motherboard and an Intel i5 4460 CPU. I was very careful and gentle when installing the CPU - but there was no POST, no output at all. When everything else failed, I tried reseating my CPU, and that is when I realised there was a bent pin on my LGA 1150 socket. My attempt to straighten the pin has been a major fail and the pin eventually just got lost right in front of my own eyes. I've tried sending the board to Asus now seeing if a repair for a good price is possible . Read somewhere it's about $60 in the US, this could cost as much as the mobo itself in my country.

I did not check the socket upon buying very carefully, but to be honest, I didn't notice anything wrong upon buying the mobo, at least not as obvious as the bent pin after I noticed the problem. I'm already thinking of buying a new mobo as I badly in need of a machine, but I still have no clue what caused the bent pin previously. I was very particular to be very very careful but things still got mucked up anyways.

Anyways, my question is, could you guys advise what are the common forms of mishandling that could have caused my pins to bend, so that I can pay extra attention to the details for my next mobo? I really cannot screw up my next mobo. Didn't know these things are this fragile.

Most bent pins are builder related , that's why you see so many failed returns.
