I'm buying one of these http://tinyurl.com/ktdr3ff and i'm not sure if it's hd. So what i'm doing is, i'm going to use my old flat dell monitor and put it in the ps3. Will the monitor be hd? (the monitor is using the vga and the ps3 is using the hdmi)

Yes, VGA can do 2048x1536 or something like that (give or take) at 75hz. Now it won't look as good, but it can certainly do it. At 720 or 1080p, whatever HD you mean, it should stand up just fine.

HD or High Definition simply means being able to display an image above 921600 pixels (720p). It has nothing to do with either Analog (VGA) or digital (HDMI) signals. If your monitor is capable of displaying an image greater than 1280x720, then it's considered HD compatible and is able to display an HD image.

HOWEVER... the transition from a digital signal (HDMI) to an analog signal (VGA) is not so simple. It is highly unlikely that the cable you linked would even work. You need to find something that will perform an active conversion from digital to analog.

It's impossible to passively convert HDMI to VGA so the link baffles me. As said you'd need a device which contains a digital to analog converter chip.

*So that would definitely NOT work.

Also not sure how you are doing audio, but you're going to want a DIFFERENT MONITOR that has either DVI (with HDCP support) assuming you are outputting audio separately from the PS3 or HDMI (with HDCP).

An active converter of reasonable quality is about $45 but I wouldn't recommend it.

*So you need a monitor like THIS:
http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-monitor-vs228hp

So for the above monitor you would attach the PS3 via an HDMI cable and select the HDMI input on the monitor. If you want desktop speakers instead of monitor you have a couple options such as connecting desktop speakers to the monitors headphone jack.

Your PC would likely be on the DVI input, so you would toggle between PC or PS3 (if PC attached) at the monitor.

*NOTE*
I am now switching to this http://tinyurl.com/l7n65bh because i forgot about audio. The monitor doesn't have a have a aux in, but my speakers do. Don't worry about audio, got it covered ;)

That monitor would work fine, but rather than using some questionable HDMI to VGA adapter, just use an HDMI to DVI-D cable as both HDMI and DVI are both digital connections. Audio would still need to be handled separately.

Problem is that it only has a VGA port. So this will work with a VGA right?

Sorry. The specs for that monitor show it has a DVI port (pg. 3). If this is not the case, then I cannot recommend you trying any HDMI to VGA adapters.
