New to the site and I picked up a 4790k and asrock extreme6. My old Asus P8P67 Pro B3 and 2500k died and I needed an upgrade. Unfortunately I found out that my GPU GTX580 SC also died (maybe it was all that died) and I am now on just the cpu and onboard graphics for a bit. I am new to OC as I never messed w/ it at all on my old cpu and this was my first real build on a computer so I want to make sure everything is ok. What is a good temp at idle/load for the cpu? Right now I show 28C and it is at idle. I read some reviews and that seemed to be the norm but I want to make sure I had it setup and fixed properly.

Idle temperature is not important. What's the temperature at full load for at least 15 minutes?

What is a good test to run to get a full load on the CPU? I just dont want to fry it or anything. It has been on for a couple days and downloading adn the temps appear to be the same.

So I ran prime95 for 24 mins, it hit 90c briefly on just one of the tests. Most of the time it was between 60 and 70 and hit 80 a couple times. Within a couple mins it was back down to 30-34c. Here are the results from prime95

It's fine as very few applications can make a the CPU as busy as Prime95, except for Intel Burn Test. It's very hard to fry the CPU; it throttles or shuts down if need be.

I am just glad that I was able to get it all put together, been a long time since i built a PC. Still disappointed my GTX580C is toast now but I guess I just have to save up and get something to replace it.
