760k vs a10-7850k

Solution

The 7850k outperforms the 5700 in single-core, all-core, and gaming performance on integrated graphics, and has an unlocked multiplier for further improvement. also, comparisons can be found
here. i would also say that i run a 7850k @ 4.0Ghz overclocked, and i see fx-6100 performance out of a $170 chip, with an iGPU that runs nearly on par with a HD 7750. (with slow ram @ 1333mhz) imho, that makes this a valuable asset, as you can bump your ram speeds up to 2133 or 2400, and get a 20-30% jump in integrated frames. not to mention better responsiveness on your desktop and minor improvements with actual app load times. more comparisons...

so would it be a good upgrade?

How is it a worthy upgrade when benchmarks show maybe 10% max difference. Also if he his board isn't FM2+ there is no Kaveri support. Period

The 760k is basically the same as the A10-7850k, except it has the GPU disabled. If you have a dedicated graphics card, there's no real reason to go for the A10-7850k.

The performance of A10-7850k is maybe 25%-30% better than the A10-5700 on paper, which in my opinion, is not worth upgrading since in reality it'll be a negligible difference. They are even considered to be the same tier, while it's only recommended to upgrade when the upgrade is at least three tiers higher:

A. I dont see his board posted on here, so how are you certain it isnt capable of kaveri processors? B. The a10-7850k is UNLOCKED. my 7850k runs at 4.5Ghz without hiccups. so take into account that the 5700 is not going to seriously overclockable while you can get an additional .8Ghz out of the 7850k with very little effort. id say that would seal the deal for me, the fact it is the flagship with perfomrance n the level of an hd7750 integrated, and ram speed goes all the way up to 2400mhz, where the frames benefiting directly from the increase, and the fact that you can even boost your iGPU to ~1020Mhz core clock without issue, and the list goes on. being a flagship it has the best support, it will be the flagship kaveri for at LEAST a full year, and the fm2+ socket is likely to be used for the next gen of APUs. I think my case proves itself.

He has a EVGA 750ti so an apu, the A10-7850K makes absolutely no sense for him. Flagship or no flagship. The 760K or 860K would be a nice upgrade for him.

Thread necro.. Should his system card brick, he would be without a pc for however long it took him to RMA/replace the card, where with an APU like the 7850k he can simply disable that iGPU when it isnt needed(giving him an additional 10% or so OC headroom without the iGPU drawing power) , and clear the cmos to restore the iGPU if his GFX card bricked. it wouldn't be a passable gaming system any more, but it would run until he replaced the card. at the end of the day you do pay more for an iGPU but you also have a failsafe for the possiblity of a gfx card failure and easy multi monitor support, possibly even dual graphics with a high end r9 series, with carizzo and zen coming out in a year or so.

This thread has been dead for seven months. It is safe to assume he made a decision.
