Everyone seems to be raving about the GTX 970.

I'm trying to upgrade my Radeon 6850 1gb....I'm on 1080P monitor so I really wonder if it matters that much,

The R290's just dropped to like, $300 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Not sure if Sapphire/ this card is a good choice out of the manufacturers....
but It seems the GTX 970 is about $370-$400. Also, I can't freaking find it in stock anywhere so....
just wondering if anyone would be concerned about getting a 290 over a 970?

i'd go for a 970, just wait for them to get restocked on newegg theyre around $350. if you can find a 290 for ~270, id go for that.

Sapphire only makes AMD cards. Both are good cards for 1080p, probably the 290 would handle much larger resolutions better, but the 970 would win for 1080p according to Tom's Benchmarks.

Just get the cheapest card you can find, both will work.

This 290 is only $270 after rebate and comes with 2 games. Might be the value/performance winner.

Thank you for your replies - I didn't realize tom had benchmarks too!

It seems like the R9 290 outperforms in a few games, but is generally a little nosier, uses a little more power (both I don't care about), runs a little hotter ( slightly concerning), but is generally 4-5 fps down.
However, not sure I want to spend another $80 on 4-5 FPS and have to wait for restock....so...thanks!
