Hello fellas ! I've been gaming on consoles all my life(I'm 17) and 2 months ago I decided to get a gaming PC because I think PC are the true platform for games to really shine and perform their best.
So I came with these parts :
CPU: I7 4790K 4.0Ghz
MOBO: MSI Z97-G45
RAM: DDR3 G.Skill Aegis 8gb(2x4) 1600Mhz
GPU: MSI GTX 970
CPU COOLER: Thermaltake CLW022 WATER 3.0 All in one
HDD: WD BLACK 1TB
PSU: EVGA SuperNova G1 1000W 80 plus Gold

I'll be gaming on a 1080p TV and possibli getting a 4k in a 1 or 2 .
What would guys change ?

More about : plz rate 1st gaming rig

I'd change the PSU to the 750/850w G2 version, which is enough for SLI. The CPU to the 4690k. Not sure how well you'd do on a 4k resolution with 970 sli..

If you're planning on going 4k then I suggest AMD Graphics cards , 1080p or 1440p then GTX 970/80 will be more than fine.

The i7 isn't much needed in gaming but will handle rendering and multitasking more than an i5 so I suggest you drop the i7 and save the money towards a better GPU.

I'd recommend at most 850W , So the EVGA 850 B2 is a good option and will provide stable power to SLI/Crossfire *

* Crossfire is only available for AMD platforms , basically its like SLI but AMD.

No need to get WD Black and instead get a Caviar blue and a Cheap SSD , Crucial's ssd is available in one day sale nowadays . ( 128Gb for $65 )

Don't choose an MSI Mobo and instead get something like an Asus Z97-A

for gaming at 4k you will probably want to step up the gpu,, at least 2 x gtx970's. the psu is way overkill a 600w unit would be ample for that setup. If it were my build, i would go with an intel i5 to save a bit of money, ditch the watercooler, and putt all the saved money toward more gpu power, like 2 x gtx 970's or 2x r9 290's if you really want to game at 4k, but you would then want to keep the 1000w psu or at least 850-900w.

I was thinking about setting up SLI with the 970 when I go 4k and what is the difference between the WD blue and WD black?
And what's wrong with the MSI mobos ?

1- 970 SLI is a good option R9 290s will cost a bit less but will consume more power so its a tradeoff to be made ( If you're already going for a high wattage PSU the R9 290s might be a good option )

2- Caviar black is an overpriced HDD , its faster and more reliable than the Caviar blue but it comes at a higher cost . A better option would be Caviar Blue + SSD for OS and main applications as the SSD is faster than the Caviar Black.

3- MSI Motherboards have high failure rates.

i have a caviar black, and i dont feel the need for an ssd. It wasnt overpriced at the time i bought it it wasnt much diff from the blue. but im not too fussed about load times either, but its still fairly fast. couldnt give a comparison to a caviar blue cause i dont have one. I think the main difference is the cache, although there may be some other differences.
