So I have an older build that a buddy sent me and i play BF4 on it, i get between 25-45 fps average and when it gets intense it goes down to single digits and this is obviously and unplayable frame rate, So i have determined it is my CPU maxing out on performance and would like to know if there is a way i can get more performance out of my CPU without overclocking, I do not know how to OC and if anything goes wrong ill be out of a pc and will not have the money to fix it. All this being said here are my Spec's.

Win 8.1 Pro
EVGA 122-CK-NF68-AR LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz (Was unstable at 3.00)
8GB PNY 800MHz RAM
EVGA GTX 760 SC 02G-P4-2762-KR
700w PSU

Nup - either overclock it (and get a custom cooler) or get a better CPU

The nature of the question makes no sense, to extract more than stock performance out of a computer is overclocking, you cannot extra more than stock without overclocking.

If you go up slowly there is very little risk to OCing. The Q6600 was a good OCer in its day due to the low FSB but high multiplier, its currently a 7.5 year old chip so I'm more surprised there are people still running with it in their systems.

No one knows how to OC until they have done it, and if everyone said I don't know how to do it so I won't we would never get anywhere. There are lots of guides online, go slow and don't necessarily try to find the most you can get out of your chip, find a good boost not the max boost and you will be fine.

Is "Origin in game" turned off. It needs to be. also turn Vertical Sync to "adaptive" and Triple Buffering to" on " in the Nvida control pane

Also turn Video settings to in BF4 to low. Even though the 760 can run on high or Ultra. High/Ultra are more taxing on CPU.

Your CPU is bottlenecking your PC's performance. To get rid of this bottleneck, you need to upgrade.

What make and model PSU?

not sure about the make and model of the psu this is a old Alienware AREA51 7500 GC and i cant seem to find anything standard about the specs. not sure what upgrades there are that are worth it for the 775 socket..i was told its the architecture holding me back...in which case i would need a new mobo and thats just not in the budget wen your broke...

I am runnning a Q9550 on my computer and was having similar issues it was driving me nuts i tested every part of the pc with other parts and finally found the cause it turned out the monitor cable had gone bad im sure its rare but every part can go bad i guess.
What was happening is the fps kept dropping it was up and down all the time and really annoying now i bought a good quality cable and its much better funny how its always the last thing you think of is the exact cause. Its probably not the case here but worth a shot.
