I have i5 3450
8gb ram
Will the processor bottleneck the gtx 980 ...i need to play next gen on high-ultra settings
I have benq 27inch 1080p monitor
Which power suppy unit will i need
I currently have i guess a 650w psu
Will i5 bottleneck the 980? Like the zotac 980?

No. One 980 with even an i5 3450 will be fine.

There is no way the 980 will be bottlenecked by a 3450. You have enough power so no worries. Go ahead and upgrade the GPU, but consider the 970 too. It'll max out games at 1440p.

At 1080p the 970 is even slight overkill and I would not recommend buying a 980. Even if you upgrade the monitor to a 1440p one you still have plenty with a 970.

i would say, at 1080p, there may be a slight bottleneck (ie you will get more performance with a faster cpu), but nothing major. As has been said though, the 970 is a pretty attractive card for 1080p resolution.

I agree with the moderator, I noticed a difference in many games when I upgraded from a 3570k to a 4790k...

I think you guys are misunderstanding a bottleneck. Will the 3450 hold him back? no. Would a fx-4300 hold a 980 back, yes. But we are talking about a 3450.

The 3450 should push the gtx 980 to 90% + usage in many games however a faster cpu will improve the gaming experience in Titles like bf4 multiplayer Metro LL, Wolfenstein, crysis 3 and Grid auto sport to name a few...

I just upgraded from a stock 3570k to a overclocked 4790k and I see a significant gain...

The 3570k is only slightly faster than the op's cpu and provided me with an excellent gaming experience with the gtx 780 ti however the overclocked 4790k certainly provides a smoother and better experience...

There will be a bottleneck and a faster processor with HT = more performance.

"I surprised how much more performance I got"

"BF4 Multiplayer and Wolfenstein gains were the most significant"

" The developer for wolfenstein recommended an I7 for a solid 60 and superb experience"

" I also tested wolfenstein on my friends rig and his overclocked 4670k performed significantly better than my 3570k"

Other factors

I upgraded to windows 8.1
The z97 chipset is better than the z77
The Asus Rog Motherboard is much better than my Gigabyte ud3h

What is your definition of a bottleneck?

Why do you think we're misunderstanding a bottleneck?

Have you ever tested different CPU's with flagship graphics cards?

Do you really think a i5-3450 is holding "bottlenecking" a 980? Are you suggesting he buy a new CPU/mobo for the 980?

I answered your question in my previous posts... the 3450 will provide a good experience however there are games that will benefit from a more powerful cpu...

I'm not suggesting that he buy a new cpu, I stated in a previous post that the 3rd generation I5 is a good cpu for gaming however some games will be better with a better cpu.

This is a known fact...

Yeah, if the OP were playing at a higher resolution, there'd be a bottleneck, albeit a small one. But like envy said, for 1080p he's moreeeeeeeeeeee than fine with this combination

He should be fine and have a good gaming experience with the combination however his question is will the I5 reduce his gaming experience and the answer is yes however it depends on the game...

yes it is holding the 980 from its full potential, but just because you have a bottleneck doesnt mean you have to buy a new cpu. but a new cpu would see better gains from the upgrade, but hardly necessary or worth the cost probably in this situation. I would suggest a 970 with that cpu as you probably wont notice the difference at 1080p. But a 980 would keep you from upgrading if you were to increase resolution or something.
