The problem I seem to be having is that I decided to update my old Compaq Presario V3020US Laptop and realized that the audio driver is nowhere to be found on HP's or Compaq's website and Windows 8's generic driver won't work either.

I have installed every driver off the HP website that it needs and have tried to look elsewhere for the audio driver but none of the forums have this specific model of audio card (Conexant 20551) it's always off by a few numbers and I've tried all of them but no matter what it always is the same, just a red X over the volume controller.

To specify the sound card more I've used HWinfo and this is what is tells me:
Audio Adapter: Intel 82801GB ICH7 - High Definition Audio [B0]
Audio Controller Hardware ID: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27D8&SUBSYS_30B2103C&REV_02

High Definition Audio Codec: Conexant Cx 20551
Audio Codec Hardware ID: HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_14F1&DEV_5047&SUBSYS_00000000

Fresh install of Windows 8 32-bit, only other issue is it's in need of a battery and probably a CMOS as well as when you turn it off that is the time it keeps and when it sits for a couple of days totally reverts time back to factory date.

If any other information is needed please ask, any and all help appreciated, thanks in advance

Intel 82801GBM ICH7-M soundcard drivers if they wont work then look for a used soundblaster live or newer card on ebay.

The Compaq is a laptop so I cant replace the soundcard, even if it was possible it's not worth it for something this old just want it to be in nice, updated, working condition but or whatever reason the soundcard is incapable of working.

Again, any and all help appreciated, thanks in advance.

I FOUND IT! Okay, I know all caps usually are mean but the relief I have is unbelievable, I actually found the driver for the sound card but, it's not listed for this laptop on HP's site.... Or anywhere really, either way I know there are people out there that have this laptop and will upgrade to Windows 7 or Windows 8 and be kind of pissed there is no sound.

Either way, here is the link to the driver:

nevermind, saw the massive "Post an Answer" button.

If a moderator could mark this as solved would be very nice and to pick this post as the answer as well.
