Why would they want to do that?

Why not keep the graphics card seperate from the GPU? That way you can talior your graphics card to you needs?

If they are seperate is ATI now called AMD? So you have the AMD Radeon graphics card instead of the ATI Radeon? Is it deffinately merged with the processor?

What happens if the GPU goes wrong because GPU's last forever but GPUs go wrong every 3 years for me. ?

More about : amd ati graphics cards joined processor

I assume you meant to say CPU instead of GPU a few times there.

AMD sells CPUS + GPU and APUs. APU is basically a media center / light gaming CPU with a rather good integrated GPU.

Yes the rebranded everything to AMD instead of ATI but thats pretty much it.

Does that clear anything up?

two lines of hardware. one the cpu with the video card in it is called an apu. the ati video cards are still made and will be made for years to come. apu are mostly used for low end laptops and desktops. amd got a big boost on the apu when they ended up in a modified form in gaming consoles. apu biggest weakness is heat. on a cpu chip there a set tdp or thermal limit. so under load the gpu part of an apu can is making the cpu chip hot.
